Medicaid Modifies Vehicle Rule

Among the many rules involved in assisting clients with qualifying for long term care Medicaid assistance, is a rule that says a person who applies can have one vehicle,  the value of which does not count toward the asset limit.  And, accordingly, Medicaid policy defines what can be considered an “exempt” vehicle.

In what may be a nod to Michigan’s growing Amish community, a recent policy bulletin announced that a carriage (along with any animals needed to draw such a carriage), would now meet the definition of an “exempt vehicle.”
