Valerie Kutz-Otway attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she graduated cum laude. She focuses her practice in the areas of probate litigation and estate planning, with a special emphasis on assisting persons with disabilities or mental illness. She is also the inclusion and lawyer development director for the firm.
Attorney Kutz-Otway is licensed to practice in the State of Michigan, the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the United States Bankruptcy Court, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. She recently obtained her license to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. She is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning, Elder Law and Disability Rights, and Military and Veterans’ Law sections of the State Bar of Michigan. She formerly served on the board of directors for the Saginaw County Bar Association and is the chair of their Pro Bono Committee. In addition, Attorney Kutz-Otway serves on the board of directors for HIS Restoration Ministries, an organization that provides shelter and counseling for homeless expectant mothers. She was also recently elected to the NAELA Michigan Chapter Board.
Attorney Kutz-Otway has been selected as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyer Magazine in 2019 and 2020. She frequently lectures on the topics of guardianships and conservatorships and has set precedent with published cases in both the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals.
