Sara Schimke practices in the areas of long-term care planning and advocacy, including estate planning, special needs planning, elder law, Medicaid planning, Veteran’s benefits, and benefit appeals. Sara also counsels and represents clients in probate litigation and financial exploitation matters.
Sara is the past Chair of the Elder Law and Disability Rights Section of the Michigan State Bar, and has served on the Section Council for nine years. She is a member of the ICLE Elder Law advisory board and has taught at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School and Oakland University, and has spoken for numerous legal and financial continuing education programs over the years.
She is also an accredited attorney with the Department of Veterans Affairs, a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a member of the Financial & Estate Planning Council of the State Bar, a member of the Financial & Estate Planning Council of Metro Detroit and serves on the on the Board of Directors and as a co-chair of the legal committee for the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation.
Ms. Schimke obtained her law degree from Thomas Cooley Law School, and her undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University.
